We are situated in Scrabster harbour, the very last address on the main A9 roadway, between the fish market and the ferry which takes you to Orkney. There is excellent walking country in every direction, with magnificent sea and landscapes, abundant with wildlife, wherever you choose to roam. The single-track road beside us is a beautiful walk to the Lighthouse, while you keep and eye out over the bay, the great Artic Skua (bonxie) will be keeping an eye on you, watchful of his territory. While the cormorants dry their wings the solan geese will be diving in a feeding frenzy. In season you can watch Minke whales and Orcas (killer whales) both feeding and teaching their young in the art of hunting (survival)
Travel by car to Caithness and enjoy our spectacular Scottish scenery. From Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness or Aberdeen, the journey to the Caithness, takes you through some of the most beautiful countryside in the world, with some breathtaking views on route. Allow time to stop to take photographs! The nearest airport is Wick which is a thirty minutes drive from us. Our nearest train station is just 2 mile away in Thurso; there are loads of taxis available.
Yachts please note: our nearest official mooring is right in front of the restaurant where it is possible to come ashore close to The Captain's Galley, but when sailing up the bay you must contact Scrabster Harbour Office on VHF channel 12.
Helicopters please note: it is possible to land in the field close to the Captain's Galley. There are no overhead obstructions but advance notification is required.
If you are planning a trip to the Highlands of Scotland, The Captain's galley is a must!
