 JIm Cowie receives the prestigious Seafood Chef of the Year award from Radio and TV personality Fred McAulay and Billingsgate Seafood Training School director C.J. Jackson
It is with great pleasure we announce that Jim Cowie has recieved the prestigious title of Seafood Chef Of the Year 2007 at the the recent seafood awards ceremony in London.
Winner Jim Cowie at The Captain's Galley restaurant, Scrabster, Caithness Jim Cowie, chef at The Captain’s Galley, personally sources, fillets, portions and prepares all the restaurant’s seafood himself to offer diners classic seafood dishes with a twist.They are all made using only sustainable seafood in season, and landed within a 50-mile radius of the restaurant. With his wife Mary, who is also a partner in the business, the Cowies have a passion for the industry that is evident in everything from their stringent sourcing policy to the demonstration days they organise for members of the public. By featuring dishes such as ‘Cajun Blackened Saithe’ and ‘Fricassée of Scrabster Shellfish’ on his menu,Jim is not only offering his customers a unique, delicious dining experience, he is educating them about less well-known species and contributing to a sustainable future for the seafood industry. His “keep it simple, fresh, local and in season” policy has won him loyalty from customers and praise from critics, including Peter Irvine in his Scotland the Best 2006-07 guide.
The Captain's Galley Seafood restaurant also received a Highly Commended in the Seafood Restaurant of the Year 2007 category.
