In 2001 we bought the old Scrabster Ice House and Salmon bothy which dates back to the early 1800s. Over two years we renovated them into our restaurant. Working with local tradesmen we restored the broken structures to their former glory and saved one of Caithness's most interesting buildings from falling into ruin. Before tackling the inside, the exterior demanded three major construction projects. We secured the roof by re-tiling it with traditional Caithness stone roof slates. A wooden conservatory was added onto the front of the bothy and a kitchen was built onto the Icehouse. The following series of pictures show Jim (in green), and Clive (in red) working on the roof and conservatory project.

Having secured the exterior, we gutted the interior and rebuilt it. The following photographs show the bothy and Icehouse when we bought the building.
